Fuel Pump pressurises fuel for the injection system. It is cooled and lubricated by the fuel it moves, which is why running a tank low shortens its life.
Replace the Fuel Pump when pressure is below specification with good voltage at the connector, when the pump is noisy and hot, or when it fails to prime. Check the relay and the ground before condemning it.
