A single click and no crank, a slow crank when hot or a battery light that appears at idle all point here.
Starters and alternators are matched to the engine, the mounting pattern and the output rating. An alternator with a lower output than the vehicle was built with will not keep up with the electrical load and will fail early, and a starter for a different flywheel tooth count will grind rather than engage. Remanufactured units are a sound choice provided the core quality is known.
Listings state the output rating, the pulley type and whether the unit is new or remanufactured. Test the battery and the ground straps before replacing a charging component.
