CV axles are matched by compressed length, spline count and ABS tone-ring type. Two axles that look identical can differ by 20 millimetres in length, and the longer one will bottom out in the joint and fail within a few thousand miles. Left and right are frequently different, and so are the inner and outer joints.
Listings state the side, the length and the transmission it fits. If only the boot is torn and the joint is still quiet, a boot kit is the economical repair; if the joint has already clicked, the axle assembly is the honest one.
